Red Alert! Take Action - Follow the Science on the Western Joshua Tree

joshua trees in desertPlease take action, submit your letter today!

For the past two years the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been considering whether to list the Western Joshua Tree as a threatened or endangered species. The Fish and Game Commission will make the final determination at the June meeting. Listing the Western Joshua Tree as a threatened species would thereby severely limit land use options and development, which we don’t need during a housing crisis.

Please submit a pre-written email to the commission asking them to base their decision on the science, which shows the species should not be listed as threatened or endangered.

Western Joshua Tree Status Update

In late 2019 the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) filed a petition with the California Department of Fish and Game Commission (Commission) to list the Western Joshua Tree as a threatened species. The petition was subsequently accepted by the Department. This action began the process to determine if the Joshua Tree should be listed as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). Read More…

HUD EXPANDS EVICTION PROTECTION AND DIVERSION PROGRAM WITH ADDITIONAL $20 MILLION

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on Monday announced $20 million in new grants for its Eviction Protection Grant Program, doubling the amount originally allocated for the launch of the Program in November 2021.

HUD has offered grants to 11 organizations, in addition to the 10 organizations selected in November, to help non-profits and governmental entities provide legal assistance to low-income tenants at risk of or subject to eviction. Legal services are integral in helping individuals and families, especially people of color who are disproportionately represented among those evicted, people with limited English proficiency and people with disabilities, avoid eviction or minimize the disruption and damage caused by the eviction process.

“The American people have been resilient in the face of historic challenges as we continue to confront the impacts of COVID-19,” said Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. Read more..

7 Reasons to Work With a REALTOR®

REALTORS® are members of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribe to its strict Code of Ethics. When you’re buying a home, here’s what an agent who’s a REALTOR® can do for you.

  1. Act as an expert guide. Buying a home typically requires a variety of forms, reports, disclosures, and other legal and financial documents. A knowledgeable real estate agent will know what’s required in your market, helping you avoid delays and costly mistakes. Also, there’s a lot of jargon involved in a real estate transaction; you want to work with a professional who can speak the language.
  2. Offer objective information and opinions. A great real estate agent will guide you through the home search with an unbiased eye, helping you meet your buying objectives while staying within your budget. Agents are also a great source when you have questions about local amenities, utilities, zoning rules, contractors, and more.
  3. Give you expanded search power. You want access to the full range of opportunities. Using a cooperative system called the multiple listing service, your agent can help you evaluate all active listings that meet your criteria, alert you to listings soon to come on the market, and provide data on recent sales. Your agent can also save you time by helping you winnow away properties that are still appearing on public sites but are no longer on the market. Read more…
